The Root of ALL That Ails

It is all connected: the crappy economy, lagging educational performance, declining place on the world stage, increasing crime...etc.

Can you solve the problem?

Crime is lower than it used to be. During the 1980's homicides peaked at 25k per year, whereas now they are around 8k each year.

I attribute the drop to two things:

1. The end of the Crack Wars meant that inner city youth stopped killing each other in record numbers, saving tens of thousands of lives.

2. Mass incarceration. Crime is a young man's game, and many criminals were locked up after their first offense, keeping them off the streets during their peak car-jacking years.
